Before taking the stage on Sunday as part of his One Thing at a Time Tour, Morgan Wallen abruptly canceled the show, angering many of the estimated 60,000 fans who had already gathered at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi.
An announcement was made on the screens on each side of the stadium stage after openers HARDY, Ernest, and Bailey Zimmerman performed: “Ladies and gentlemen, sadly Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to play tonight. As a result, the performance planned for tonight has been postponed. Take care as you leave the stadium. Tomorrow, at the time of purchase, you can get a refund for tonight’s show.
Morgan Wallen Concert Cancelled 2023
In spite of a statement to the audience explaining that Wallen had lost his voice, rumors spread after a TikTok video of a security guard at Vaught Hemingway Stadium gave the impression that Wallen had been too drunk to perform.
TikTok user @thunderb4lightnin uploaded the video on Monday, and it has since gone viral, with over 3 million views as of this writing. A member of the audience asks the security officer if Wallen didn’t perform because he was too drunk, and the guard responds that this is “bull crap” and that Wallen lost his voice. The security officer also said that an ambulance took Wallen to the hospital.
Big Loud CEO Seth England attempted to put an end to the rumors on Tuesday (April 25) by releasing a statement from the event provider Best Crowd Management, which was responsible for providing security at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium concert.
England posted a comment from Best Crowd Management on social media that said, “A hired employee of BEST Crowd Management made false claims as it related to last night’s Morgan Wallen concert and we do not stand behind the detail in his statement.” For further information, see Morgan’s social media.
Thank you @bestcrowdmanagement for correcting your employee, who cooked up a full tale that was nothing near true,” England added in his own tweet. Everything you heard was a lie. What some individuals would remark as a knee-jerk reaction is hilarious. To sum up, he said, “Don’t Believe Everything You Read.” By the time this was published, Billboard had not heard back from Best Crowd Management about their social media statement. After notifying followers on social media, “Y’all know how important my fans are to me, so I feel horrible about this news,” Wallen rescheduled more gigs that had been set for this week. Nothing would make me happier than to be up here with you guys, performing for you.
However, as of today, we must reschedule this week’s performances due to my medically-mandated vocal rest. As much as I value and respect your attendance at my events, I cannot ask you to put up with anything less than my best effort. I’m doing all in my power to hasten the day when we reach 100%-MW. With “Thought You Should Know” at No. 7, “Last Night” at No. 8, and “One Thing at a Time” at No. 9, Wallen is the first artist to have three songs in the top 10 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart at the same time.
