Michael Williams, a native of Mason, continues on Monday’s episode of “American Idol” in search of fame. Michael Williams American Idol Judges Impress In Top 26.

The top 26 participants from this season’s competition performed on stage at the Disney resort in Ko Olina, Hawaii, for performances broadcast on Sunday and Monday. The song “Tuesdays” by Jake Scott, which the 21-year-old Williams performed, is dedicated to his parents in honor of their 40th wedding anniversary.

Williams received acclaim from judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie for taking the key up a half-step before the performance as a result of guest mentor Noah Cyrus’ advice.

“It was so beautiful, so well-delivered,” Perry said, adding that the performance gave her “chill bumps.” She also commented that Williams will be a star with or without “American Idol.”

Perry and Bryan thought it was Williams’ “defining moment” on the program.

“The best way to know how you’re doing is when all the girls start screaming,” Bryan said.

Richie also praised the local performer, saying he “nailed it.”

Williams’ performance in the top 26 was a step up from the Showstopper round broadcast last week. He sang Miley Cyrus’ song “Angels Like You” and, in the judges’ opinion, had an excellent stage presence. However, they noted that his vocals needed work.
