The full list of upcoming films and television shows produced by DC Studios and directed by James Gunn and Peter Safran has been made public. Five movies and five TV shows for HBO Max are on the list, with two Batman flicks and the Superman: Legacy revival in 2025 taking the top two spots.
A person is familiar with Gunn’s resume, which includes the 2022 HBO Max program Peacemaker and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, shouldn’t be surprised by the lineup, which features some of the comics publisher’s most popular and well-known heroes and franchises in addition to some unusual selections.
Here’s a look at all the new movies and shows coming to the DC Universe:
NEW DCU MOVIES
The only project with a release date is this: July 11, 2025. Superman: Legacy, written by Gunn, will follow Kal-El as he attempts to reconcile his extraterrestrial ancestry with his human family and upbringing. It sounds like a remake of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel from 2013, with one crucial difference: Henry Cavill won’t be playing Superman again. As Gunn approaches finding his lead, anticipate great excitement and expectation.
This group of superheroes first appeared in a 1999 comic book series by DC’s WildStorm imprint. Seven heroes with very high-concept superpowers make up The Authority; one of them, Jack Hawksmoor, is psychically bound to cities and derives strength from them. It will mark the start of the DC Universe’s WildStorm canon.
THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD
The Brave and the Bold is a classic DC Comics series that featured Batman and Robin in crossover tales with other DC characters for over 15 years (1967 to 1983). A three-season Batman animated series of the same name ran on Cartoon Network from 2008 to 2011. According to the press release from DC Studios, “the DCU will introduce its Batman and Robin in this unusual father-son story inspired by Grant Morrison’s comic series.” The animated program served as the basis for that series.
SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW
Adapted from Tom King’s acclaimed comic book storylines, DC Studios claims that this film “presents Supergirl viewers are not used to seeing.” In all honesty, they’re not accustomed to watching Supergirl on a large screen. She has only ever been on stage in the 1984 film Supergirl, which starred Helen Slater as Kara Zor-El and Faye Dunaway as her adversary.
Believe it or not, Wes Craven, the master of horror, directed the first Swamp Thing movie in 1982. Swamp Thing made his first appearance in House of Secrets #92 in 1971. The only description of this film in the DC Studios lineup announcement is that it “will investigate the dark origins of Swamp Thing.”
NEW DCU TV SHOWS
The writer of this seven-episode television series is Gunn. In it, Amanda Waller (the Suicide Squad’s director) creates a new supergroup out of “monstrous prisoners.”
If Creature Commandos wasn’t enough, Viola Davis plays the protagonist in an Amanda Waller-themed series. According to DC Studios, Team Peacemaker will appear in the program, which was scripted by Jeremy Carver of Supernatural and Christal Henry of Watchmen. Do you know What Happened To Javi Yellowjackets? Will He Return This Season?
A time traveler who uses primitive technology and everyday items from the future to transform himself into a superhero in the present is a classic comic relief character from DC Comics.
We have given a tweet about James Gunn’s upcoming movie Superman. You can see below:
Joshua Orpin on if he'd be up to playing Superman in James Gunn's upcoming movie:
“Oh, boy. Man, I think that I would have to be open to the opportunity;
I'd have to be open to playing that role.
Because it's such an iconic and massive opportunity that just doesn't come…” 1/2 pic.twitter.com/FWYypptTiE

Hal Jordan (the Silver Age Green Lantern) and John Stewart (first appearance, 1971) are the ideal buddy-cop pairing because the Green Lantern Corps has been the leading law enforcement organization in the galaxy since 1959. According to DC Studios, the two will be the center of an “enormous TV event series” centered on solving “a dark mystery.” You must also check the Blacklist Cast And Who Is On The Last Season Of Blacklist?
Since Themyscira is setting, you can be sure that this show will discuss Wonder Woman’s past and character arc. She may or may not play the lead role, though. According to DC Studios, “This drama focuses on the origins and political intrigue of an island of all women,” which sounds very Game of Thrones-like.
When they were both appointed as equal chiefs of DC Studios in October, Gunn and Safran assumed control of the DC Universe. The two will oversee all of the company’s motion picture, television, and video game productions, with Gunn possibly taking on the writing and directing of further projects. The Flash, Aquaman, and the Lost Kingdom, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and other pre-DCU movies will all be released in 2023.
