Flash Flood Warning: On Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for south central Monterey County. The warning was issued after local law enforcement reported flash flooding in the immediate vicinity of the Salinas River.
It was in effect until 4:15 p.m. The NWS reports that when the warning was issued at 1:15 p.m., flash flooding was already taking place. The organization issued a warning, stating that regions close to the Salinas River, metropolitan areas, highways, streets, and underpasses were all at risk due to the floods.
In particular at peril were the communities of Soledad, Greenfield, King City, Gonzales, San Lucas, San Ardo, and Bradley. It was suggested that locals avoid low-lying regions and refrain from attempting to drive through flooded roads in order to protect themselves and their property.
The National Weather Service advised locals to monitor developments and heed any evacuation instructions. Additionally, they remind people that most automobiles can be carried away by just two feet of moving water and that just one foot of water is enough to sweep away a car.
The river itself and any other bodies of water that may be impacted by the flash flooding were also warned to be avoided because of the unpredictable and extremely dangerous currents.
