Jennifer Lopez, who has stated in the past that she does not drink alcohol, is attracting fire on social media for releasing a line of alcoholic beverages despite the fact that she has stated in the past that she does not drink. On Tuesday, Lopez announced the launch of her new brand of flavored spritz cocktails under the name Delola through an Instagram video.
“I have been grinding nonstop for decades, and more and more, I realize the importance of enjoying life,” Lopez says in the ad. “I just wanted to create something better. Better tasting, better ingredients, something I want to drink with my friends and family, and that is Delola.”
Lopez adds in the advertisement that the cocktails do not contain the typical “artificial additives” and sweets that are found in other beverages. Also, the cocktails contain approximately the same quantity of alcohol as a glass of wine. Although Jennifer Lopez is shown in the video holding one of the drinks to her lips with a straw in her mouth, it does not appear that she is actually drinking the beverage.

Despite this, some of the actress and singer’s fans have expressed that they are “disappointed and confused” by her decision to promote alcohol consumption. This is due to the fact that the actress and singer have been vocal about the negative effects of drinking on one’s health, and that her husband, Ben Affleck, has stated that he is sober after completing treatment for alcohol addiction.
“Wow. I’m so disappointed and confused by the narrative that she puts out about how she doesn’t drink alcohol and all the benefits from not drinking. And her partner is sober? It doesn’t matter what type of ‘good for you ingredients’ and ‘health labels’ (gluten free) is in alcohol, it’s still a carcinogenic toxin,” an Instagram user wrote in the comments section beneath the video.
The same user said that she believed Lopez’s line of nonalcoholic beverages would have been more well-accepted if it had been released at the same time. She stated that at this point it was no different from any other celebrity-endorsed booze brand.
Others have described the action as “opportunistic” and an attempt to “grab some money.” Another Instagram user commented, “She doesn’t consume alcohol so just goes to show what she will do for money.” A representative for Delola, who was asked about the backlash, declined to comment. “I haven’t been a big drinker my whole life. For a long time, I didn’t drink at all,” Lopez said in a recent interview with Food and Wine. “But I’m very particular, and I wanted [Delola] to be something that’s easy to pour over ice and drink.”
A source close to Lopez provided clarification regarding her drinking habits. The source stated that although Lopez has been seen drinking at various events throughout the course of her career, she has decided to cut back on her drinking in order to improve both her physical health and her appearance.
Several celebrities have also developed alcohol brands, with varied degrees of success. One such celebrity is actor George Clooney, who, in 2017, sold his Casamigos tequila firm to the multinational beverage company Diageo for a total of $1 billion. Clooney co-founded the business with two pals.
