We’re returning to Serenity for a second season following the events of season 2 (more on that later). Even though Netflix made it appear as though the future of Sweet Magnolias was in doubt, the streaming service has decided to order a third season of the show.
It’s a good start, despite the lack of additional information. Read up on all the information we have so far regarding Sweet Magnolias season 3, including our best estimations about the release date and cast changes.
When Is the Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Release Date?
There will now be the third season of Sweet Magnolias! The joyous news was first revealed by Variety on May 4, although the Netflix drama has yet to be given a release date. However, we may return to Serenity in early 2023.
Because the second season of Sweet Magnolias was released in February of the following year, we may safely assume that the third season will arrive at the same time, providing us with a bright respite from the cold. If we’re optimistic, at least!
Will the Entire Sweet Magnolias Cast Return for Season 3?
To our knowledge, the whole cast, including the following actors, has agreed to return for a second season:
- JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Maddie Townsend
- Brooke Elliot as Dana Sue Sullivan
- Heather Headley as Helen Decatur
- Chris Klein as Bill Townsend
- Justin Breuning as Cal Maddox
- Carson Rowland as Tyler Townsend
- Logan Allen as Kyle Townsend
- Anneliese Judge as Annie Sullivan
- Chris Medlin as Isaac Downey
- Dion Johnstone as Erik Whitley
- Jamie Lynn Spears as Noreen Fitzgerald
- Brandon Quinn as Ronnie Sullivan
- Michael Shenefelt as Ryan Wingate
What Will Season 3 Be About?
According to JoAnna Garcia Swisher, the third season will likely begin up just where season two left off. According to her comments in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, it’s most likely going to start with “because I don’t think you can come back months later and ask, “What happened to Helen?” and “Is Justin in jail?” Go all out or else you’ll be sorry.”
After the cliffhanger ending of season 2, assuming she’s correct (and we’re convinced she is), season 3 will answer all of our burning questions. Our first choice is: Will Helen say yes to Ryan’s proposal, or will she stick with her original plan of going after Erik?
Fans have already begun to form opinions, but Heather Headley tells TVLine that she believes it could go any way, given her past relationships with both men. But don’t hold your breath for a decision in the immediate future.
Her executive producer Sheryl Anderson confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she knows what she is going to say, but would not bet on the timing of her announcement.
Cal and Maddie, Serenity’s other ever-complicated coupling, round out the rest of the cast. For most of the second season, we learned more about Cal’s history with rage and saw how it affected Maddie’s relationship with him.
In the season finale, Cal was arrested for a fight at Sullivan’s after he ended up in a bar brawl. Sheryl states in an interview with Glamour that the incident prompted her to ask two crucial inquiries.
“Is there a formula for establishing trust? After a trust is broken, can it be re-established?” A “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” awaits if all goes as planned.
Let’s not forget Dana Sue, either. Everything was going swimmingly for Ronnie after she had him back in her corner, but then Miss Frances died and left her a large sum of money.
For some reason, people started going for Dana Sue and her family, even slashing the tires of Dana Sue’s van tires. Who would do such a thing? However, it appears that we will soon get the answer to this question.
But that’s only the beginning: So many more storylines are just beginning to surface, such as Ty’s future without baseball and Issac’s discovery regarding his birth parents (which, maybe just maybe, includes Annie).
How Can I Watch and Stream Sweet Magnolias?
The touching drama’s first and second seasons are only available through Netflix. To ensure that you’ll be ready for the new season when it arrives, you need to join up now for a plan (beginning at $9.99 a month).
The Sweet Magnolias book series is also a good option if you’ve previously finished the entire 20-episode series.
