Playstation 5: Everything You Need to Know About Sony’s Newest Consoles!

The PS5 is officially here, bringing the latest generation of PlayStation games consoles to market. In the current generation, Sony appears to be keeping with the strategy that made the PS4 a success: selling systems that can play first-party games from Sony’s historic franchises and supplementing that lineup with fantastic third-party titles.

As well The PS5 will enable high refresh rates, which should result in smoother gameplay and better graphics (if you have a display that supports those refresh rates). It’s also possible that the PS5’s proprietary SSD will revolutionize the design of games, allowing them to load much faster.

After a thorough review of the PS5, we can say with confidence that the PS5 is a solid piece of hardware. Games load quickly, and the console’s user interface is cleaner and more intuitive than on the PS4. There Are Two Ps5 Consoles, but They’re Largely the Same

There are two versions of Sony’s next-generation system, like Microsoft’s Xbox One and PlayStation 4. There is a 4K Blu-ray drive available for $499.99 on the PS5. However, the Digital Edition PS5 costs only $399.99, saving you an additional $100. (which also looks noticeably thinner than its more expensive sibling). In contrast to Microsoft, the only differences between these two consoles are the inclusion of a disc drive and the price.

Eight-core AMD Zen 2 processors power the PS5’s eight-core AMD Radeon RDNA 2 GPU, which provides 10.28 teraflops of raw power. As a result, when the PS5’s CPU isn’t working at full capacity, the graphics may be able to operate at a slightly higher rate than normal. Even though this presentation (starting at 35:30) makes it sound like the difference is insignificant:

And what about the SSD I talked about earlier? It has 825 GB of storage and 5.5 GB/s of throughput, which is fast enough to allow game makers to construct levels without things like elevator trips or long hallways that hide loading in the background. You should realize, however, that portion of that 825GB of storage space is eaten up by system data, meaning that you only have 667.2GB of usable storage space available. It’s also possible that you’ll run out of useful space rapidly because of the ever-increasing size of games. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, for example, consumes 133 GB, or about 20% of the console’s total storage space available for game files.

You won’t be able to add more storage to the PS5 when it launches, but you will be able to do so in the future with a Sony-certified M.2 SSD. We don’t know exactly when those SSDs will be ready for purchase. PS5 chief system architect Mark Cerny predicted that the console’s SSD certifications will take place “a bit after” its release in March.

The Xbox One X will include a proprietary SSD with a speed of 2.4GB/s and a storage capacity of 1TB NVMe (of which 802GB is usable). In practice, this could imply that Xbox Series X games take longer to load than PS5 games, but it all depends on the game.

There’s also a huge difference between the Xbox Series X and S: Quick Resume. With this feature, you can switch between games in as little as 10 seconds. If you’re looking for it, you’ll have to look elsewhere. When starting a new game on the PS5, expect to have to wait a little longer for things to load.

Up to 8K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate are promised by PS5’s 4K graphics capabilities. Ray tracing, which can produce more realistic effects in gaming environments like reflections in windows, is another benefit of the console’s increased horsepower. Additionally, the PS5 has 3D audio, which Sony claims would allow users to “see with sound.” Although Sony tried to sell 3D audio as a feature on the PS4, we’ll have to wait and see how much better 3D audio will be on the PS5 or if the $100 Pulse 3D wireless headset that’s “fine-tuned for 3D Audio on PS5 consoles” is more than just marketing. We don’t know how 3D audio will be used in games just yet.

In addition to the USB-C port on the front, there are three USB-A ports on the PS5 — one on the front and two on the back. Ethernet and 802.11ax Wi-Fi are also included on the console’s back (aka Wi-Fi 6).

The biggest game system in modern history has all of that hardware inside of it. Seriously. The one with the disc drive measures roughly 390mm x 104mm x 260mm in size. Disc drive (about 15.4 inches tall, 4.1 inches deep, and 10.2 inches wide).

With the Xbox Series X (the bigger of Microsoft’s next-generation consoles), the dimensions are 313.12×151.1×151.1mm. This is compared to the Xbox One, which measures 313.12×151.1mm. Aside from that, neither of these consoles is as small as the Xbox Series S.

For next-generation consoles, all three of the new consoles have been considered to be exceptionally cool and silent.

The Dualsense Controller Might Be the Most Next-gen Part of the Ps5

As you may be aware, the PS5 has a different controller design than the DualShock series of previous PlayStation consoles. There are a few new features that could make it the PS5’s most exciting feature.

Starting with the aesthetics. In contrast to previous DualShock controllers, the new DualSense controller for the PS5 is the first PlayStation controller that does not resemble the original in any way. While the DualSense has the same basic layout as the DualShock 4 — a directional pad and buttons on the top half, two control sticks on the bottom, and the DualShock 4’s center touch bar — the controller’s entire shape is new, with pointier handles and broader lines, and everything has a striking two-tone design.

However, the DualShock 4’s “Share” button has been replaced by the “Create” button on the DualSense, which performs the same functions as the DualShock 4’s “Share” button. The PS5, on the other hand, automatically records the last 60 minutes of your gaming at 1080p resolution and 60fps, an upgrade from the PS4’s 15-minute limit. Manually recording games in 4K on the PS5 is possible, but it necessitates some fiddling with the settings.

The DualSense has a fresh new appearance, but that’s not all it has to offer. When you play a game, you’ll get varied levels of haptic feedback depending on what you’re doing. In addition, the controller contains “adaptive triggers” that may imitate varying resistances, which could be used to create stress when drawing back a bow, for example. As a bonus, here is a peek at the control system that makes it possible for adaptive triggers to be added resistance.

The DualSense has impressed both Andrew Webster and Tom Warren, two of my coworkers. Andrew made a blog post about the PS5 controller’s new features and how they are used in current PS5 titles. Different weapons have varying degrees of trigger resistance in Fortnite, for example. Tom also has a video of Astro’s Playroom, a game meant to demonstrate the DualSense capabilities of the PS5. (Andrew also found the game to be quite enjoyable.)

In addition to the speaker and microphone, the DualSense offers a 3.5mm headphone connection for when you choose to use headphones instead. In addition, it is the first Sony controller to feature a USB-C port.

DualSense controllers can be purchased for $69.99 each, a modest increase from the $59.99 you paid for the DualShock 4 at launch. A $29.99 charging dock for two DualSense controllers is also available from Sony.

You’ll Have a Few Exclusive Games to Pick From at Launch, and $70 Is the New $60

To go along with the console, Sony has unveiled six first-party games.

It’s not like you’ll be losing out on anything if you choose to keep your PS4 instead of upgrading to a PS5. Currently, PlayStation 4 owners can play Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, as well as Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn.

In addition, if you purchase any of these three PS4 games, Sony will credit your account with a free PS5 upgrade. Those titles can only be played on a PS5 with a disc drive if you purchase the PS4 disc version of the game instead of downloading it from the PlayStation Store.

$70 IS NOW THE OLD $60
Some of Sony’s PS5 launch games feature a $69.99 price tag, in case you didn’t notice. Some games will see a $10 price rise from the $59.99 you’ve been used to paying. You should expect to pay more than $49.99 for games from Sony studios in the future, even if they state they’ll be priced between $49.99 and $69.99.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download and play a selection of PS4 games on their PS5 at launch. The collection includes some of Sony’s most popular first-party PS4 games, but there are also some third-party offerings.

There Are Already Lots of Ps5 Games to Look Forward to

Despite the lack of new PS5 games available on launch day, there are a handful of titles that will swiftly fill out the PS5’s library beyond 2021.

Gran Turismo 7 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will both be released in the first half of 2021. Forbidden West: The Horizon will arrive in the second part of 2021, according to previous estimates. In addition, a God of War 2 has been announced for 2021 by Sony.

The PS5’s third-party lineup includes Final Fantasy XVI, Resident Evil Village, Hogwarts Legacy, and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, among others.

The Ps5 Is Backwards Compatible With Most Ps4 Games

Almost all PS4 games are backward compatible with the PS5. “More than 99 percent of the 4,000+ games available on PS4 will be compatible on PS5,” according to a statement from Sony. Furthermore, thanks to a feature Sony calls Game Boost, many PS4 games may operate at higher or smoother frame rates on PS5.

Digital Foundry’s early tests show that many PS4 games benefit significantly from the PS5’s upgrades. In this video, you can see for yourself:

It’s worth noting that Sony has acknowledged that some PS4 games may not work properly on the PS5 due to “errors or unexpected behaviour.” In addition, the following ten PS4 titles cannot be played on the PS5:

Sony’s PlayStation Now cloud gaming service, which the company just recently confirmed will be supported by the new device, will also let you play some PS3 and PS2 games on your PS5.

The Ps5 Is Backwards Compatible With Most Ps4 Games

Jumping into games is simplified with the PS5’s redesigned user interface, which includes a slew of new capabilities. If you’re used to the PS4’s UI, the row of app icons in the games menu will look extremely familiar. Apps are divided into two categories: games and media. It’s a lot more difficult to select a game when you’ve got so much more material to consider.
