Reddit users reported on a Twitter Spaces conversation between director Yabuta and Vinland Saga manga creator Makoto Yukimura on May 1, 2022, on May 3, 2022. Yukimura verified the earlier speculation that Vinland Saga Season 2 would undergo a studio change during this meeting, claiming that the animation staff “went from WIT to MAPPA.”
Employees who previously worked on Vinland Saga Season 1 at WIT Studio have gone over to Studio MAPPA, making the studio transition rumor credible months ago. Director Yabuta, for example, joined MAPPA in May 2020 and worked on Attack On Titan: The Final Season, producing the first promotional video teaser before moving on to the production of Vinland Saga Season 2.
Studio MAPPA may already have too many tasks on its plate. Chainsaw Man, Jigokuraku, Dance Dance Danseur, Kakegurui Twin, and the Yuri on Ice film had all been announced by February 2022.

Shuuhei Yabuta has indicated that he will direct the second season of the Vinland Saga anime. Yabuta also directed the fantastic animation Inuyashiki: Last Hero. Because the director has worked as a CGI artist and a CGI/3D director (Attack On Titan), it’s no surprise that CGI is heavily utilized in the fight scenes.
Takahiko Abiru, the character designer from Hunter x Hunter, has indicated that he will return.
The first season’s screenplays were written by Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish and Ajin: Demi-Human) and Kenta Ihara (Saga of Tanya the Evil). The music was composed by Yutaka Yamada of Tokyo Ghoul.
