Jack Mccoy Is Played By Sam Waterston

As of Season 5, he is a series regular on “Law & Order.” Waterston was born in 1940 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to a language teacher father and a landscape painter mother. He attended Brooks and Groton preparatory schools before receiving a scholarship to Yale University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962.

Waterston made his New York debut later that year at the Phoenix Theater in “Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama’s Hung You in the Closet and I’m Feelin’ So Sad.”

Over the next five decades, Waterston’s career included many film and television roles and numerous stage appearances. His awards include an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, an OBIE, and a Drama Desk Award for theater.
