After A Gunshot Near Miami’s Norland High School, A Student Was Airlifted, And Authorities Are Searching For The Perpetrator!

Norland High School

After a shooting close to Miami Norland Senior High School, a high school student was flown to the hospital. Although the incident occurred off-campus, Miami-Dade Schools Police late Monday night confirmed the victim was a student at the school.

As a result of the shooting, which took place on Monday at about 4:15 p.m. near Northwest 11th Avenue and 193rd Street, all schools on the campus, including the middle and elementary schools, were on lockdown.

“Be advised that there was somebody shot at Norland Senior,” said a dispatcher over Broadcastify. “Be advised; she’s calling from the middle school advising that someone was shot at the high school.”

The Miami Gardens Police, Miami-Dade Police, and Miami-Dade Schools Police answered the call. When bullets were heard on the high school field, many students fled into the gym and dialed 911. The shooting occurred during after-school activities.

“I was at cheer practice, and all I hear is, ‘Pow, pow, pow,’ everybody looking like, and then I heard all my coaches say, ‘Run, run now! Run!’ That’s all I heard,” said a student.

The 18-year-old sufferer was taken to a local fire station after managing to board a blue SUV. At the station, a police SUV ring was seen around that vehicle as part of the inquiry.

About a mile and a half from the schools, paramedics treated him for a gunshot wound before transporting him in a rescue truck to a field where an air rescue aircraft landed.

Afterward, the sufferer was sent to Aventura Hospital. Police had received complaints regarding a second victim inside the middle school simultaneously. Police investigated the school with pistols drawn while fire rescue trucks waited outside, but no second victim was discovered.

The middle school and elementary school lockdowns were removed at 5:45 p.m., and parents could pick up their children. All schools were placed on lockout during the search.

The high school was still on lockdown at 6:30 p.m. while police wrapped up their investigation there. One of the anxious parents running to the school was Regina Wollaston. While initially feared the worst, she quickly received a positive update via an automated call.

“The school said they were safe,” she said, “students and staff. I felt better.” Chimere Jackson said she was relieved that her child was secure and that the safety measures had been implemented as intended.

“My husband and I have been on edge, but the good thing to know is the principal, she has been taking a lot of precautions, making sure the students were safe at all times,” she said.

The shooter, who police are still looking for, is still at large. The victim’s health is stable, and she is still being treated at the hospital.
