Friday’s shootings in Tate County, Mississippi, left six people dead and one injured when a man opened fire on his ex-wife and maybe other family members, according to Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance.
Richard Dale Crum, 52, the suspect, was detained following the alleged rampage and is now being accused of first-degree murder in connection with the incident, according to the sheriff’s office. The department stated that additional charges are anticipated to be brought.
Around 11 a.m. ET, the suspect pulled into the parking lot of a store in Arkabutla, a small rural hamlet in northern Mississippi, and opened fire, killing the car’s driver next to him, according to Lance. This was when authorities received the initial 911 call. No other passengers in the vehicle suffered injuries.
According to Lance, the alleged shooter entered the store before leaving and heading to his ex-wife’s house. According to Lance, the suspect shot and killed his ex-wife before striking her engaged boyfriend, who was also in the house.
After spotting a vehicle that matched its description in front of a house that officials suspected belonged to the suspect, deputies were able to catch up to him, according to Lance.
Authorities discovered two guys who had been shot and killed on a little road behind the suspect’s house. According to Lance, one was found on a highway, and the other was inside a car.

According to Lance, two more victims were discovered shot to death in a home close to the suspect’s residence. According to Lance, deputies think the perpetrator and the victims, a man and a woman, may be linked.

Tate Reeves, the governor, claimed to have been briefed on the shootings and noted in a tweet that the perpetrator is thought to have operated alone. As we continue our investigation, Reeves promised, “I will make sure that law enforcement has access to all of the state’s resources.” Northwest Mississippi’s Tate County is located 30 minutes south of Memphis, Tennessee.
