A Canadian actress, director, producer, and screenwriter with the name of Antonia Eugenia Vardalos. She gained nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her roles as writer and actor in the romantic comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002).
On September 24, 1962, Vardalos was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is the daughter of Greek-Canadian land developer Constantine “Gus” Vardalos, who was born in Kalavryta, Greece, and Doreen Christakos, a bookkeeper and homemaker.

The sweet love story in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” is based on Vardalos’ own, at least temporarily. In September 1993, Vardalos married fellow actor Ian Gomez, and the two weren’t averse to working together; Gomez appeared in both “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and Vardalos’s other productions, such as her 2009 film “I Hate Valentine’s Day”
