EMS Workers: In connection with the death of a 35-year-old patient under their care, two Illinois EMS personnel have been charged with first-degree murder, according to a news release from the authorities on Tuesday.
After the passing of Earl L. Moore Jr., 35, on December 18, 2022, Peter Cadigan, 50, and Peggy Finley, 44, LifeStar emergency medical technicians, were charged with first-degree murder, Sangamon County State’s Attorney Dan Wright announced Tuesday.
According to investigators, Cadigan and Finley transported Moore to the hospital face-down on a stretcher with a medical strap over his back. Shortly after getting to the hospital, Moore passed away from compressional and positional asphyxia.
Authorities claim that police officers went to a home in Springfield, Illinois, at around 2 a.m. after getting a complaint about persons inside carrying weapons. Officers arrived at the area and discovered Moore lying in bed.
They “immediately noticed that he needed medical treatment,” according to the police. Then, at 2:18 in the morning, an ambulance was contacted and sent to the residence.
While Moore “was not able to walk and medical professionals were not offering any assistance,” according to police, a female paramedic is shown on body camera video telling Moore to walk to the ambulance.

Following that, three police alternated in guiding Moore into the residence as medical staff strapped him to a stretcher and secured him before the transfer, according to body camera footage.
Moore passed away at the hospital at 3:14 a.m., and the cause of death was determined to be a homicide, according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon at the news conference on Tuesday.
NBC News contacted the lawyers for the couple and LifeStar Ambulance Service, but they did not answer immediately. They have a court hearing scheduled on January 19th.
