Dana Perino Early Life
On May 8, 1972, Dana Perino was born in Evanston, Wyoming. Perino was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, attended Ponderosa High School in Parker (a suburb of Denver) and earned a Mass Communications degree from Colorado State University-Pueblo in the mid-1990s.
She produced and hosted political and public affairs show while working for numerous campus stations during her college years. She worked at KTSC-TV, the campus’ Rocky Mountain PBS affiliate, and was a member of the school’s forensics (competitive speech and debate) team. Dan Schaefer’s press secretary, a position she held for over four years. In 1998, she and her husband, Peter McMahon, relocated to England. Two months after the September 11 attacks, in November 2001, they returned to Washington. She later went on to work as the Department of Justice’s spokesperson beginning in 2001. Later, Perino served as the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s Associate Director of Communications.
Under George W. Bush, she attained the position of Deputy Press Secretary. Perino became the White House press secretary in 2007 when Tony Snow received cancer treatment.
