Computer games interested Pajitnov at the Computing Centre. Alexey played pentominoes as a child. He was inspired to make a pentomino game after struggling to put the pieces back in the box. He used an Electronic 60 in the computing facility to create the first Tetris.
Pajitnov created the initial game prototype in two weeks. He finished the game on June 6, 1984. The original game had no levels or scoring. Dmitri Pevlovsky, another programmer, became interested in the game afterward. Vadim Gerasimov, a 16-year-old intern, helped him construct the PC version in three weeks.
