Pit Bull Attack: In East Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a 7-year-old child was killed Friday after being attacked by a pit bull, according to the authorities. The owner of the dog has been detained.
The attack took place on Friday at around 6:30 p.m. local time, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. According to the sheriff’s office, the girl was taken to the hospital in a hurry, where she subsequently passed away from her wounds. She was not recognized right away.
According to a probable cause form obtained by CBS News, the dog’s owner, 20-year-old Erick Lopez, was detained on suspicion of negligent homicide.

Officers from East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control later arrested the pit bull. According to the probable cause documents, Lopez admitted that the dog was “unrestrained” and “would often roam the neighboring property” where the attack occurred during an interview with investigators, even though he claimed he was not there. According to officials, there was no fencing separating the two properties.
Sheriff Sid Gautreaux of East Baton Rouge said, “This is an awful, heartbreaking tragedy. “This family has my deepest sympathies, and I will keep them in my prayers.”
