According to the probable cause documents, Lopez admitted that the dog was “unrestrained” and “would often roam the neighboring property” where the attack occurred during an interview with investigators, even though he claimed he was not there. According to officials, there was no fencing separating the two properties.
Sheriff Sid Gautreaux of East Baton Rouge said, “This is an awful, heartbreaking tragedy. “This family has my deepest sympathies, and I will keep them in my prayers.”
