As magnificent as the British Columbian scenery in Netflix’s Virgin River is, its inhabitants’ lives are just as tragic.
What one wouldn’t fall in love with this tranquil countryside and feel right at home?
There is a saying that looks may be deceiving: Mel Monroe, who moved to a tiny town in the first season, learned this the hard way.
Season three brought more surprises for the show’s major players, but will they return for season four?
Let’s take a look at what we know so far and see if there are any surprises.
Virgin River Season 4 Potential Release Date:
The good news is that Netflix has confirmed that the program will get a fifth season in addition to season four.
However, no release date has been set as of yet.
Netflix’s vice president of original programs, Jinny Howe, told USA Today that “people more and more [are] yearning for, not just that comfort, but also that feeling of hope and that feeling of community.”
For me, it served as further indication that we should focus our efforts on this particular area of programming because it all fits together naturally.
Considering how popular the melodrama series has been worldwide, this comes as no surprise. According to FlixPatrol, the show has remained in the top 10 for 53 days in the United States, 57 days in Canada, and 57 days in the Netherlands for its entire run (78 days).
“There is a sense of closeness and intimacy that you experience on the show that people seek in their relationships,” said Alexandra Breckenridge (Mel) of the show’s success. It became something people craved throughout the pandemic since they weren’t feeling it as often.
When season four of Game of Thrones began production, Martin Henderson – who plays Jack – offered fans an update by posting a picture of himself in a voiceover recording booth on Instagram.
He commented on Twitter, “Doing some post-production work on #virginriver season 4.” “It’s all about making sure the best fans ever have a great experience!” Enjoy your time with family and friends, wherever you may be.
Filming is done and the series is now in post-production, implying that filming has concluded.
By accident, during an interview with Glamour, Breckenridge accidentally stated that season five of This Is Us would be pushed back by a few months.
This Is Us “reach out to have me come back in season four,” Breckenridge explained.
Unfortunately, due to schedule conflicts, I was unable to film the second season of Virgin River.”
“Okay, so that was put on hold for a little. Since I’ve been on Virgin River, they’ve been trying to convince me to return. It just so happened that season five of Virgin River was planned to begin filming in March, but was pushed back to July.”
Season five is expected to begin filming in July, which means that season four will be available soon.
According to our assumption, they’ll follow in season three’s footsteps by releasing in July 2022, which coincides with the start of production for season five.
The cast also posted some behind-the-scenes photos, featuring Jack (Martin Henderson), Doc (Tim Matheson), Preacher (Colin Lawrence), Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth), and Ricky (Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey) in November, hinting that a new season isn’t that far away.
Nevertheless, don’t expect to see season four and season five covered back-to-back. During an Instagram Live, Alexandra stated the filming of season five had been delayed. A statement from the actress stated:
“Initially, we were scheduled to begin in March, but that has already been postponed. Perhaps we’ll get started in the summer? Since I’m done with winter filmmaking, I’d prefer to shoot in Vancouver during the summer rather than the winter.”
For the actress, it appears the climate in Vancouver has been particularly harsh:
“That’s something I’d rather never do again. When it’s meant to be the height of summer and you’re standing outdoors in sandals or cute clothing, it’s downright freezing.” She didn’t finish her sentence, but her expression was clear. Here’s a video to get you started:
Alexandra had to put up with more than just the weather during filming. The actress was excruciating discomfort while filming a few sequences for season four because of a loose tooth.
During the filming of the show, “there are a few situations where I was genuinely in the most terrible pain, besides childbirth, of my life,” she said on Instagram.
“We don’t know when the tooth cracked or chipped, but over time that cracks enlarged, it wasn’t diseased, but the root was dying, the nerve was dying.” Ouch.
If season five filming does take place this summer, viewers may have to wait until the end of 2022 at the earliest for the debut of the next season. This isn’t the end of the world, as Season 4 has plenty of new episodes to make up for any lost time. There will be 12 episodes instead of the normal 10.
Virgin River Season 4 Cast:
Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), Jack (Martin Henderson), John, Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), Doc, Hope (Annette O’Toole), and others would be expected to return if season four is approved, as would Benjamin Hollingsworth, Zibby Allen, Lizzie, and Ricky.
Tragically, Lilly (Lynda Boyd) took her last breath in season three due to pancreatic cancer, but Boyd has confirmed that conversations about bringing her character back for season four have taken place.
“When I did have that chat that day with those producers, they said that the plan was to bring me back in flashbacks – like Mel’s husband, her dead husband,” she said (via Radio Times).
Virgin River Season 4 Plot:
At the end of season three, several significant issues were hanging over the Virgin River, which will be the focus of the tale going forward.
Despite Mel’s pregnancy, it’s possible that the baby isn’t going to be Jack’s. He could be her late husband, Daniel Gillies (Mark). By the end of season four, showrunner Sue Tenney tells TV Line, “You’ll find out.”
What will happen to the couple if the baby is not Jack’s? Breckenridge told E! that it would be “immensely difficult.” “I can’t even imagine how difficult that would be for Jack. When Mel’s dead husband’s kid is born, it will be difficult for Mel’s dedicated spouse to have a baby of his own. Just saying that’s a lot to ask for is a bit much.”
It wasn’t until Mel learned she was pregnant that Jack got down on one knee to propose to her.
While Hope was released from the hospital at the end of the season, her fever returned, so she isn’t completely out yet. What’s next for Tenney? “We do go forward,” she said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. We’re focused on her recovery and what she’s going through—a traumatic brain injury—to us. Our show doesn’t truly take place in a hospital or rehabilitation center. The truth is important to us, therefore we’ll go to any lengths necessary to get it, even if it means risking our safety.
In addition to adhering to the established medical limitations, “we also know what we prefer to do, which is intricate emotionally drama-based storytelling.”

Due to COVID-19, O’Toole’s character was conspicuously absent from Season 3.
A “pandemic turn,” as Tenney explained to EW. You can tell that a lot of effort has gone into keeping her in the program. If a fourth season occurs, the pandemic will be far less severe because everyone has been immunized. So, I hope that Annette will return.”
Doc and Hope’s vow renewal ceremony is expected to be included in upcoming episodes, as Tenney revealed: “We had a very nice, two long episodes about it.” ‘That’ll be the subject of two episodes.
Recommitment ceremonies are something we’ll be interested in seeing when we get there.” That’s all put on hold, but their devotion to one another is only strengthened by the drama that’s unfolding in their lives.
However, a behind-the-scenes video shot by Alexandra Breckenridge on Instagram at the end of October has left supporters concerned about Doc’s long-term prospects. Doc Mullins (a.k.a. actor Tim Matheson) was introduced as a new cast member in the episode, and she introduced him as Dr. Cameron Hayek. So, who is this new doctor, and who may he have feelings for?
Brady’s is one of the storylines that will be revisited in Season 4. The police found the gun used to shoot Jack in his truck, and he was detained. And he has Calvin on his back, who wants Brady to look the other way so that Calvin’s cannabis enterprise can continue undisturbed. If Calvin’s suppliers don’t get paid, Brady will be the next target.
She had been raped in Sacramento, and her miscarriage was a direct result of that night. Brie and Mel had an emotional conversation about it. Will she stay in town for Brady after telling Mel she was intending to leave town?
Todd, Charmaine’s husband, doesn’t want Jack to be engaged in the lives of their twins, which means that Jack’s custody battle is only going to become worse.
Tenney told TV Line, “I have sympathy for Charmaine.” “Her acts are unacceptable to me. They tend to be a little nutty. Then again, she’s not an evil person. She’s simply a little shaky since she’s hurt. Charmaine’s actions are motivated solely by remorse. Her work is constantly tinged with the pain she has endured.”
Even though she’s still on the lam, Paige intends to come clean and hand herself in. Christopher may end up in foster care or with her ex-boyfriend Wes, who appeared at the end of the third season.
In the finale’s last moments, a 19-year-old from Seattle claims to be Doc’s grandson and joins John in taking Jack’s partnership offer. On EW, Matheson said: “That’s one of those gigantic surprises.”
“First and foremost, I have the impression that he would categorically refuse and reject it. What he knew about his past life and the women in his life at the time he was attending medical school, there were no grandchildren at that time. That’s inconceivable.”
Then he said: “First, he’ll assume it’s a hoax; second, he’ll assume it’s incorrect. If it turns out to be true that it might have or did occur, we’ll be like, ‘Wow.’ It’s a lot of fun to get involved in, even for a couple without children who have never had any drama or strife.”
As a follow-up, she said, “Brie’s legal background will be utilized in the show.”
Lizzie is the focus of Ricky and Parker’s attention, but neither of them can have her trust given their prior transgressions.
In an interview with TVLine, Grayson Gurnsey (Ricky) said, “I hope they get back together, but on mutual terms where she has forgiven him and he has learned his lesson.”
“This season, Ricky had a major difficulty with that. He was aware of his error, but he chose not to dwell on it. To rekindle his romance with her, he must gain a better grasp of how she truly feels.”
He went on to say: “They seem to care deeply about each other, but I think it’s just puppy love at this point. Your first love may not always be for the right reasons, but you can still learn a lot and grow as a person from it.”
However, the Marines have the option of sending Ricky to a location far from home, such as South Carolina.
Even though it would require “a lot of Skype and Zoom” to keep his character in the series and contact with Lizzie, Gurnsey remarked, “I kind of hope he moves to South Carolina.”
Ahead of the next season, Henderson has given intriguing clues about what fans should expect. The actor who plays Jack Sheridan teased:
“You’ll figure out what’s going on, even if I don’t tell you much. All I’m going to say is that season four reveals and answers all the questions, but then introduces some more; ” (as reported by Hello Magazine).
“I believe that the huge cliffhanger at the end of season three will lead to a satisfying conclusion for viewers in season four.” Numerous plot twists left the audience on the edge of their seats, making for a love/hate relationship between them and the show.
Fortunately, the writers are willing to address your concerns so that it will be well worth your time.” “I’m confident that everyone will be pleased.” Eek!
