Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid” will finally take us underwater. Disney’s Investor Day on Dec. 10, 2020, introduced the cast, and over three years later, we’re closer than ever to seeing the 1989 animated movie’s prominent characters come to life. Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel, spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the 2023 Kids’ Choice Awards on March 4 about her film’s star-studded ensemble. She claimed Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula was “definitely” the most surprising character development.
Her Ursula performance will astound people. “She’s beautiful, talented, and the way she just consumes Ursula is so beautiful,” Bailey added. I’m really proud of her. In the picture, she tricks Ariel with a mother trickiness, so I got to be engrossed and in her world—and nearly taunted and falling into her spell.”
McCarthy, who debuted her part in a September 2022 “The Little Mermaid” video, applauded Bailey’s portrayal. She cried when she heard Bailey sing on set in June 2022. She sings from her heart and has roots. In an interview on “Watch What Happens Live,” McCarthy said, “When I heard it, there were like seven of us that just burst out crying because we had not heard it.” “She is a remarkable young woman in every moment—how she is on set, how she is as a person—and I burst out crying.”
The Little Mermaid Release Date
The current release date for The Little Mermaid in the UK and the US is May 26, 2023.
Disney fans may have to wait longer than anticipated to return to the sea, as the COVID-19 outbreak caused two delays in the film’s original filming schedule. The Little Mermaid won’t be available on home video soon, but Disney+ will likely watch it first.
The Little Mermaid Cast
Ariel, Ursula, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, and Daveed Diggs feature in the May 26, 2023, live-action reboot. Rob Marshall directed “Mary Poppins Returns,” and Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken wrote the music. See the cast ahead.
Halle Bailey as Ariel
The live-action movie features the 22-year-old singer and actor Ariel. This will be a huge breakthrough role for Bailey, who previously co-starred with her sister Chloe on “Grown-Ish” and was a member of the musical combo Chloe x Halle.
“I just feel super honored that I get to take on a role like this,” the celebrity stated in a November 2022 interview with POPSUGAR. Sometimes I really want to pinch myself.
Melissa McCarthy as Ursula
The comedian will take on the tentacled antagonist Ursula, notorious for her extravagant eye makeup and cunning methods. “It is so much fun!” In an interview for the year 2020, McCarthy discussed the process of filming with Ellen DeGeneres. “It has been a tremendous amount of fun.
When you enter Rob Marshall’s universe, it feels like you’ve entered a nightmare… He keeps asking me throughout the day, “Do you want to slide down this forty-foot clam shell?” I’m like, ‘YES! Of course, I do! You must be kidding me. It’s been highly innovative in every way. You also check out the Family Matters Cast: Exploring Steve Urkel Enduring Popularity On This Series
Awkwafina as Scuttle
The actor from “Crazy Rich Asians” will play Scuttle, a helpful bird. The role was everything the celebrity had ever wanted. I found it difficult to comprehend the news at first because Scuttle was one of my favorite characters. He has always caught my attention, she remarked in a Hello Giggles interview from 2020.
Then, when I met [director] Rob Marshall, who has helmed some of my all-time favorite films, like “Chicago,” I must admit that I felt a little terrified. She eventually overcame her worries, though. You can change yourself whenever you want to; all you need to do is be sure of your choice and move forward, said Awkwafina.
Jacob Tremblay as Flounder
The 16-year-old performer, who won praise for his “Room” performance, will play Ariel’s fish friend, Flounder. In Pixar’s coming-of-age tale “Luca,” the emerging star also provided the voice for the film’s titular character. Javier Bardem as King Triton
King Triton, the king of Atlantica, will be portrayed by the “No Country For Old Men” actor. At a SAG Awards preshow event in 2022, he predicted that “The Little Mermaid” would be “something amazing.”
Daveed Diggs as Sebastian
Actor from “Hamilton” plays Sebastian, who performs one of the show’s biggest hits, “Under the Sea.” He claimed that he “worked harder” on the character of Sebastian than he ever had for any other part in a January 2021 interview with Collider.
“I often say yes to things when I feel capable of performing them, but I’m not sure if I’m the best option or the person who should be carrying out the task. That applies to Sebastian in several uncomfortable ways; he said”. “I’m not of Caribbean ancestry, but I’m trying to immerse myself in that art. I performed much voice work with Chris Walker and the late Tony Hall to correct the voice. I also spent much time in Trinidad and traveled to Jamaica for research. The issue about a dialect is that everyone’s voice is somewhat different, making consistency more crucial than correctness. I didn’t want to disappoint you with that aspect of your speech pattern”.
Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric
British actor Hauer-King will portray the endearing Disney prince Prince Eric. Before this, the 25-year-old appeared in “A Dog’s Way Home,” the BBC miniseries “World on Fire,” and the BBC’s “Little Women.” Fortunately, based on his YouTube account, he can sing as well.
