Squid Game Actor Oh Yeong-su: Oh Yeong-su, a Korean actor who just received a Golden Globe for his role in the popular television program “Squid Game,” has been accused of s*xual misconduct. He wasn’t held back and was discharged.
Prosecutors made the charges against Oh public Friday in Suwon, South Korea. In the middle of 2017, the 78-year-old Oh is accused of touching a woman indecently.
In December 2021, Oh was the subject of a complaint from the alleged victim. According to the Yonhap news agency, when authorities closed the case in April 2022, the victim requested that it be reopened. When questioned by the prosecution, Oh refuted the accusations.
I held her hand to lead the way around the lake, the actor claimed in a statement to Korean station JTBC. I apologized because [the individual] assured me she wouldn’t raise a stink, but that doesn’t imply I accept the accusations.
The AFP news agency quoted an official from the Suwon court saying that “anything published by local media is not factually correct.” The agency also stated that in response to the indictment, the Korean Ministry of Culture removed a government TV ad touting regulatory innovation featuring Oh off the air.
Oh was born in Kaesong, now a part of North Korea, in 1944. After the 38th parallel became a dividing line, his family relocated to the U.S.-controlled South before the inter-Korean war. He started performing professionally in 1967, and live theatre has been his primary medium.
A Streetcar Named Desire and Goethe’s “Faust” translations in Korean, among other stage plays, were among the more than 200 he claimed to have been in 2013. Oh’s most well-known film performance before “Squid Game” was as the elderly monk in Kim Ki-“Spring, duck’s Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring.”
