Kemp was selected 17th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1989 draft. He quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young players in the league, earning NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in his first season.
Kemp played for the SuperSonics for eight seasons, from 1989 to 1997. During that time, he was named to the NBA All-Star team six times and helped lead the team to the NBA Finals in 1996. He also won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 1991.
