Randy Lemmon Dies: According to a statement from his family, longtime Houston radio presenter and master gardener Randy Lemmon passed away at 61 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York following complications from a stroke.

After moving to Houston, where he attended Robert E. Lee High School and later enrolled at Texas A&M University, where he lived in Moses Hall and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Randal Scott Lemmon was born on January 4, 1962, in Whittier, California.

Soon after, while working at the university’s college of agriculture, he earned a Master of Science in Agriculture degree.

For over 25 years, Lemmon hosted The GardenLine, a weekend gardening program on 740 KTRH. On the show, Lemmon would provide a wealth of practical advice and solid research for dealing with the region’s particular environment. The “most-listened-to garden show in the country,” he claimed.

The host was considered the go-to authority when climate-related situations became hazardous, such as hurricanes and hard freezes. Landscapers and gardeners heeded Lemmon’s advice on lawns, gardens, and outdoor life.

Before that, Lemmon worked at his alma mater, TAMU, for ten years. He produced news and analysis for an agricultural network he founded with the College of Agriculture.

Lemmon was known for his genuine love of Aggie football, cooking, and Astros baseball when he wasn’t instructing Houston how to maintain their landscaping.

Lemmon was a loving father to his son Randal, 21, and daughter Selena, 16, all of whom he raised. He gave their efforts his full backing.

His wife Yvonne, children, two sisters-in-law, five nieces, two nephews, his aunt, and her son all survive him. Anyone wishing to send condolences should do so at Salem Lutheran Church in Tomball, Texas, at 22601 Lutheran Church Road.
