Path of Exile 2 is one of the most anticipated action RPGs of the decade. The sequel to the critically acclaimed and massively popular Path of Exile, released in 2013, promises to deliver a new campaign, classes, skills, mechanics, monsters, and a revamped endgame. But when will fans be able to get their hands on this epic adventure? Here’s what we know about the Path of Exile 2 release date.
Path of Exile 2 Closed Beta Is Planned For June 2024
Path of Exile 2 is expected to be released in 2024. The closed beta for Path of Exile 2 begins. We don’t know when we’ll get access to the closed beta, but I feel we can sign up for it sometime in the coming months.
Aside from the closed beta, it’s unclear when Path of Exile 2 will officially launch. Expect a fair amount of waiting time because the developers haven’t provided much of an update beyond saying, “We’re unfortunately a little bit further out than we were hoping.”
Path of Exile 2 is, of course, already significantly delayed. The initial release date estimate put it in 2022 at the latest when it was first announced, which — with the greatest of intentions — didn’t happen. But it is not sure whether Path of Exile 2 will come on this date only.
Path of Exile 2 is Now A Complete Standalone Game
Path of Exile 2 was initially announced as an expansion to Path of Exile at ExileCon 2019. However, in July 2023, director Jonathan Rogers revealed that Path of Exile 2 has become a complete standalone sequel, with its own story, gameplay, and content. He explained that this decision was made to avoid destroying the original game people love for no reason. You can check Twitter below.

Path of Exile 2 will still share the same platform as Path of Exile 1, meaning both games will be fully supported and updated with new leagues and features. Moreover, all microtransactions will be available across both games, unless they are specific to one of them. For example, you can’t use a bear skin in Path of Exile 1, since that game has no bear form.
However, Path of Exile 2 will have its mechanics, balance, endgame, and leagues. It will also continue the story of Path of Exile 1, which means that the original game will not receive any more story content, but only league content.
Path of Exile 2 Gameplay
New players to Path of Exile 2 should be familiar with the game’s endgame, which is centred on the Atlas of Worlds and offers a brand-new seven-act story campaign. The sequel adds a new skill system while keeping all the extra content Grinding Gear Games has developed over the years. The current class archetypes will remain in place, but there will be 19 new Ascendancy classes for players to pick from when creating builds.
In Path of Exile 2, support gems can be directly socketed into skill gems, potentially transforming each skill gem into a 6-link. As a result, armour sockets are no longer a thing. The ability to cast several auras with a single button push will also be available to aura users.
While adding new things for players to farm and tinker with utilizing its crafting system, Path of Exile 2 revamps the gear progression. Additionally, the game incorporates shapeshifting, which promises a fluid design that enables players to change forms even mid-animation.
Players will meet new enemies and bosses during their recent trek across Wraeclast. From the footage presented, these encounters will be heavily influenced by the more intricately designed encounters from subsequent expansions. New character models and enhanced animations will be added to the game’s visual aspect. Microtransactions will be available in both games and be useable.

Path of Exile 2 Story
Twenty years have passed since the main game’s events when Path of Exile 2 occurs. With Kitava and his divine peers long deἀd, society has begun to repair, but not before unsavory personalities ascend to the top and once more ruin Wraeclast. Path of Exile 2 will shift away from the significant events of its predecessor and instead provide a more narrowly focused, smaller-scale narrative.
Players in Path of Exile 2 will meet new characters and explore a fresh chapter in the lore of Wraeclast. Despite the lack of current information about the general plot, the character-selecting screen is pretty impressive. All the playable classes are lined up and prepared to be hanged in it; the player’s chosen exile is the only one fortunate enough to survive.
