NYPD Officer Was Shot: Following a complaint about a man slamming a woman’s wall in Brooklyn on Wednesday, a scuffle and subsequent police chase resulted in the shooting of a seven-year NYPD veteran in the foot and the injury of a suspect.
Just before 9 a.m., an apartment building on Gates Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant received a 911 call from a woman. According to authorities, the responding officer, Orlando Adorno, was one of four.
In a late-morning news briefing, police reported that a woman had called 911 to say that her male companion was breaking the wall in her third-floor apartment and wouldn’t leave.
The two arrived at the scene and encountered the injured cop and three others in front of the building. According to NYPD sources, the individual would be detained on a charge of criminal mischief following an inquiry. As the officers attempted to handcuff him, a struggle broke out.
Adorno was hit in the right foot by a bullet fired. Then the suspect fled. He ran one block east on Gates Avenue, one block south on Bedford Avenue, then one block east on Monroe, according to the police.
Four police officers—two on foot and two in a car—were pursuing the man closely, according to officials, who added that he was holding the gun throughout the pursuit.
Shots were fired as the officers confronted the suspect on Monroe Street. The guy was struck twice in the thigh by the six shots fired by NYPD officers — one of the two on foot fired five shots, the other one.

Police officers reported that he fired three rounds during the altercation. Two shot casings were found at the site on Monroe Street, while a third was found in front of an apartment building on Gates Avenue. Also found was a pistol.
The firearm had not been reported stolen, according to officials, who claimed they were awaiting trace results on it. They identified the suspect as Brooklyn resident Raheen Joye, 41.

In Georgia, Joye was detained 17 times between 1998 and 2014. His most recent arrests were for DWI and low-level narcotics offenses, but he was also handcuffed twice in 2005 and 2007 on charges involving guns. They said that Joye also had an outstanding warrant for possessing firearms out of Troy, New York.
Authorities stated that Adorno, a devoted police officer, husband, and father, is anticipated to recover fully. The 10th NYPD officer to be shot while on duty in nine different situations this year, according to NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell, who also praised the department’s courageous efforts and ongoing bravery.
Sewell stated, “The shootings of your NYPD officers date back to this year’s New Year’s Day, and here we are again as this year draws to a conclusion. “The NYPD’s tenacity and resiliency will never waver.”
She continued, “Our members have vowed to help, confront danger, assist crime victims across this city every day, and as we have seen, it is at considerable risk to themselves.
Mayor Eric Adams, a former member of the NYPD himself, claimed to have met the injured cop there, along with his wife and brother. The Democrat stated, “It is obvious he is resilient about dealing with the crime in our community.”
