What Is The Professional Career of Michael Strahan?
The New York Giants selected Michael Strahan in the 1993 NFL Draft. Due to injury, he only participated in six games and was absent for the Giants’ two postseason games that year.
After a few disappointing seasons, Strahan recorded 14 sacks in 1997, a career-high. He received First-Team All-Pro honors from the Associated Press and was selected for his first Pro Bowl. With 15 packs and selection to his second Pro-Bowl and All-Pro teams in 1998, Strahan maintained his impressive record of achievement.
When the 2000 Giants made it to the Super Bowl, Strahan took part in their playoff run. Despite having just won the NFC Championship Game over the Minnesota Vikings 41-0, the New York Giants were easily trounced by the Baltimore Ravens, 34-7, in that game.
A new contract between Strahan and the giants was negotiated in 2002. He claimed that negotiations broke down after he rejected the team’s initial contract offers.
In 2002, he charged, the front office failed to make an effort to remain competitive. Running back Tiki Barber criticized him for being ungrateful and self-centered four days later. That evening, the two had an argumentative phone call, and according to Strahan, they are no longer in contact. The Giants looked at trading for Strahan, and when that information came to light in the spring, Strahan claimed that management had staged the contract controversy to make him seem bad. The group rejected that.
From 1997 to 2005, Strahan was one of the most dominant defensive ends in the NFL. He won the NFC Defensive Player of the Year award twice and the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2001. (in 2001 and 2003). Strahan was only able to record four sacks with a torn pectoral muscle that kept him out for the majority of the 2004 season.
He bounced back in 2005, making it back to the Pro Bowl with his protege, Osi Umenyiora, as the two anchored the Giants’ defense and combined for 26 sacks. During the height of his career, Strahan was regarded as the gold standard and best at his position by many coaches, peers, and experts (1997–2005).
He was also thought to be among the best defensive ends of all time at stopping the run, if not the best, which led people and his colleagues to view him as a complete defensive end.
With 22.5 sacks in the 2001 season, Michael Strahan broke Mark Gastineau of the New York Jets’ previous mark of 22, setting the NFL record since it became an official statistic in 1982.
The Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre tumbled down during the season-ending game on January 6, 2002, and Strahan swooped in for an easy sack.
Many of the Giants’ defensive players patted quarterback Brett Favre on the helmet after the play during the next celebration. At least one onlooker said that Favre purposefully dropped to make sure Strahan would break the mark. Mark Tauscher, the correct tackle for the Packers, said it was just a poor play and that “we wanted to prevent the sack.”

Additionally, he was seven times named to the Pro Bowl roster. Despite being eligible for voting on February 2, 2013, Strahan was not elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Since Terry Bradshaw, who had previously commented on the trophy ceremonies for Fox’s initial Super Bowl broadcasts, was grieving the loss of his father, Strahan also provided commentary on the trophy presentation for Fox.
At the New York Giants-Indianapolis Colts game’s halftime on November 3, 2014, the Giants gave him his Hall of Fame ring. 100 former Giants players and Strahan’s former teammates were present.
