Katie Couric made sure that her husband’s celebration of his 60th birthday was beautiful. The 66-year-old journalist celebrated her husband John Molner’s birthday on Saturday. The couple, married in 2014, marked the event with 125 well-known guests at The Cutting Room in New York City.
Among the famous people invited were sportscaster Bob Costas, news anchor Rosanna Scotto, and actor Jason Biggs. Steve Cohen, better known as The Millionaires’ Magician and the creator of the live performance Chamber Magic, provided the entertainment.
Molner got to experience the enchantment up close as he joined Cohen on stage, as shown in pictures provided to PEOPLE. In an Instagram post published on Saturday, Couric congratulated Molner on starting a new decade.
In addition to a video montage of memorable occasions throughout the years, Couric commented, “@johnmolner had a fantastic year. You are now formally living in my decade! Six zeros! More adventures in your best decade yet are highly anticipated! Happy Birthday, and welcome to the 1960s!”
When Couric first met Molner, her second husband, the two immediately fell in love. A mutual acquaintance introduced them in 2012, they were engaged in 2013, and they wed in a small garden ceremony the following year.
In 2022, on the occasion of the couple’s eighth wedding anniversary, Couric received a breast cancer diagnosis. Molner “had a tumor the size of a coconut on his liver” removed just a few months before their 2014 wedding, she later claimed in a personal essay published in September.
Couric added on the Today show, “I feel very blessed that it was diagnosed at that time. Then underwent a lumpectomy in July to remove an olive-sized tumor, and she started radiation treatment in September.
When Couric wrote her autobiography, Going There, which was published on June 28, Molner was again by her side. In a conversation with Katie Couric Media, Molner discussed the experience of helping his wife write her memoir. Molner loved her book and prided himself on being a private person.
