Jeffrey Hoskins Prison Sentence: Following the death of his infant daughter more than four years ago, a Jackson County man was sentenced to several years in jail this week.
Jeffrey Todd Hoskins, 29, of Ripley, was sentenced on Monday after being found guilty in February of crimes of parental child abuse resulting in death, strangling, and unintentional homicide. The prosecution sought a first-degree murder conviction.
In October 2018, authorities detained Hoskins after his 6-month-old daughter was discovered unresponsive and not breathing. Before she passed away, she spent more than a year on life support.

Hoskins was given a sentence of 15 years to life for the abuse resulting in death, with 1 year for involuntary manslaughter and 1-5 years for strangling. The entire sentence will be served concurrently.
Judge Lora Dyer of the Jackson County Circuit Court mandated 50 years of supervised release. According to the judge, Hoskins had already spent more than 3.5 years in prison.
