Ringo Starr was not The Beatles’ original drummer; instead, he was a later addition to the group. However, Sir Ringo joined the band just in time for their most significant achievements, arriving just in time.

On August 18, 1962, Sir Ringo Starr became a member of The Beatles after being hired by the group’s manager, Brian Epstein. He was a stand-in for the band’s original drummer, who failed to win over their producer, George Martin.

Pete Best, the drummer in question, had been a band member for a while but left when they achieved popularity. Pete left the band only a few days before Sir Ringo joined, which would have made his firing even more venomous given that the band’s debut album didn’t contain any of his or Ringo’s contributions.

Record labels turned down the quartet when they applied for a contract after losing their bassist Stuart Sutcliffe after a brief residence in Hamburg. After making additional recordings for EMI in 1962 and being signed, they began work on their first legitimate record.

When a session drummer substituted Pete’s drumming for their debut song, Love Me Do, by George Martin, questions were expressed regarding Pete’s drumming at this time.

As stated in The Beatles: Anthology, the producer justified this choice: “I concluded that the drums, which are indeed the foundation of a decent rock band, weren’t supporting the boys enough.

Who Was Ringo Starr’s Wife, And Does He Have Children?

In 1965, Ringo Starr wed Maureen Cox for the first time. George Harrison served as a witness, and Beatles manager Brian Epstein served as best man. Zak and Jason were sons born in 1965 and 1967, respectively, and Lee was a daughter (born in 1970).

Due to Starr’s repeated affairs, the couple filed for divorce in 1975. Later, he acknowledged that he was “a drunk, a batterer of wives, and an absent father.” At age 48, Maureen passed away from leukemia in 1994. On the set of the movie Caveman, Starr later met Barbara Bach, an actress, and the two got married in 1981.

After the birth of Tatia Starkey, Zak’s daughter, in 1985, he became the first Beatles member to become a grandfather. Zak has shared the stage with his father on a few All-Starr Band tours as a drummer.

Totaling one from Zak, four from Jason, and three from Lee, Starr has eight grandchildren. He became a great-grandfather for the first time in 2016 as a Beatle. Starr and Bach are still together and live in separate homes in Monte Carlo and Los Angeles.
