Martina Mcbride Early Life

On July 29, 1966, Martina Mariea Schiff was born in Sharon, Kansas. Martina’s love for singing started early in her childhood. She would return home from school every evening and sing along to CDs by well-known artists like Patsy Cline, Linda Ronstadt, and Reba McEntire. Conveniently, when Martina was barely nine, her father started a band named “The Shifters.” Martina soon began providing the band with backing vocals; by the time she was a teenager, she was also playing the keyboard.

Martina Mcbride Career: Is She Started A Band Named Lotus?

Martina started a band named Lotus in 1987 with a few of her pals. Martina wed John McBride, a sound engineer, in 1988. Martina and John relocated to Nashville in 1989 in the hopes that she would sign a recording deal as a solo singer. Garth Brooks employed John as a sound engineer after relocating to Nashville.

Martina soon traveled with her husband and Garth. She even assisted with concert souvenir sales for Garth Brooks. Martina’s voice ultimately caught Brooks’ attention, and he offered her the chance to open for him to secure a recording contract for her. Her husband was producing her demo tape at the same time as they were working with Charlie Daniels & Ricky Van Shelton. As a result, she was offered a recording deal by RCA Nashville Records in 1991.

In 1992, Martina released “The Time Has Come,” her debut studio album. The following two songs failed to crack the top 40, but the title track peaked at No. 23 on the country charts. “The Way That I Am,” her second album, was certified Platinum. Martina entered the country’s top 10 thanks to her first two singles, “My Baby Loves Me” and “Life No. 9,” which reached Nos. 2 and 6, respectively.

“Independence Day,” the third single, fell short of the top ten but took up the Video and Song of the Year prizes at the Country Music Association Awards. Gretchen Peters, the composer, was nominated for a Grammy due to it.

When McBride released “Wild Angels” in 1995, the song “Safe in the Arms of Love” gave her another top-five smash. Martina released two duets in 1997: “Valentine” and “Still Holdin’ On,” the first single from her subsequent album “Evolution” and a collaboration with Clint Black. With “A Broken Wing,” McBride achieved her second No. 1 hit on the country charts in the latter part of 1997. Four additional top 10 hits on country radio came from Evolution.

Due to its two million+ unit sales by year’s end in 1998, the album was awarded platinum certification. She also performed for President Bill Clinton at this time and went on to win the CMA award for Female Vocalist of the Year. She released her first Christmas album in 1998, which included a cover of “O Holy Night,” which debuted on the charts in 1997 and kept re-entering them until 2001.
