Anne rose to fame as a rider in the 1970s. She placed fourth in the Rushall Horse Trials at the start of the decade and took home gold in the solo competition at the Burghley European Eventing Championship. In addition, Anne competed for the British eventing team, winning a silver medal in the team competition at the 1975 European Eventing Championship. In the individual competition that same year, she also took home silver.

Later, in 1976, Anne competed in the Olympic cycling competition for Great Britain in Montreal; sadly, she sustained a concussion halfway through the race. Anne was president of the Fédération Equestre Internationale from 1986 to 1994 after finishing her riding career.
