FBI Increases Reward For Information On Pipe Bombs: The night before the 2021 US Capitol riot, someone planted pipe bombs near the offices of the Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee in Washington, DC. The FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Police Department is now offering $500,000 for information that results in the arrest of the suspect.

The statement marks a significant rise in the amount of money the government is prepared to grant in exchange for information related to the inquiry; before Wednesday, the prize had increased from $50,000 to $100,000.

The additional sum was announced just days before the uprising’s second anniversary. Since the pipe bombs, which were accurate but never detonated, were found, not much has been revealed about the investigation.

According to David Sundberg, the assistant director in charge of the FBI field office in Washington, DC, “with the significantly increased reward, we urge those who may have previously hesitated to contact us – or who may not have realized they had important information – to review the information on our website and come forward with anything relevant.”

Sundberg continued, “The FBI and our partners continue to work tirelessly to bring the perpetrator of these dangerous attempted acts to justice, despite the extraordinary volume of data evaluation involved in this case.

According to the statement, the pipe bomber investigation has involved “about 1,000 interviews, more than 1,200 visits to homes and businesses, more than 39,000 videos, and roughly 500 tips.”

According to an account the acting chief of the US Capitol gave to lawmakers in January and the FBI poster, the bombs were found minutes apart on January 6 around 1 p.m. ET, just as a crowd of enraged supporters of then-President Donald Trump descended on the building following a nearby rally with the president.

The two pipe bombs were planted on January 5, 2021, between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m., according to the FBI. The FBI has released security footage that reveals the suspect was holding a backpack, donning a face mask, a gray hooded sweatshirt, and sporting a pair of black and light grey Nike Air Max Speed Turf sneakers with a yellow emblem.

The FBI stated that “studies of the suspect’s behavior in surveillance footage and conversations with locals in the Capitol Hill neighborhood have led the FBI to assume the suspect is not from the area” after releasing more videos in September 2021.

According to an earlier CNN article, the gadgets were loaded with explosive powder and connected to egg timers. The two offices, which are just blocking south of the Capitol and less than a quarter mile apart, were the location of a response by officers from the ATF, FBI, US Capitol Police, and DC Metropolitan Police. Robots safely detonated the devices at the scene.
