Ex Jessica Simpson: When he claimed that marriage is “usually better the second time,” some think Nick Lachey may have been disparaging his first wife, Jessica Simpson.

During the season three reunion, which aired on Thursday, Lachey remarked on former competitor Matt Bolton on the dating reality series “Love is Blind.” Bolton met his second wife on the show; he had previously been married to his high school sweetheart.

Lachey & his second wife, Vanessa Lachey, co-host the Netflix series.

Bolton gave Lachey a fist bump and laughed before responding, “Cheers to that.”

Simpson and Lachey were wed from 2002 to 2006. In 2011, he married Vanessa Minnillo. In 2014, Simpson wed former football player Eric Johnson again.

Three children have been born to each of Lachey and Simpson’s recent unions.

Simpson and the show’s supporters backed the singer of “I Wanna Love You Forever” over the comments.

I’m sorry, but did Nick Lachey fist-pump Matt, while stating, “always better the second time around,” as a dig at Jessica Simpson? Felt awful,” one individual wrote in a tweet.

Say what you will about Love Is Blind Season 3, but one person commented that Nick Lachey did not need to drag Jessica Simpson into this. Another said, “Nick Lachey bringing up Jessica Simpson continually in Love Is Blind, SEASON 1, 2 & 3 is so disgusting.”

The former couple’s marriage was documented on the MTV reality program “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” from 2003 to 2005.

Simpson later discussed her marriage in her memoir “Open Book” from 2020, referencing the challenges of starting a new marriage while filming a reality series.

According to US Weekly, she stated, “Nick adored the fact that I was so strong in my faith and that I had this wide-eyed naive approach to life.” We were young and paving the way in reality television at the time of his proposal in 2002, constantly mic’d and always on. We worked and were excellent at it, but when it came to being alone, we weren’t great at it anymore.

When asked if she regrets being married, she referred to Lachey as her “first love.” I don’t regret it because Nick was intended to be my husband, and no one else was meant to have my virginity. I was 22 when I committed to this man, and I don’t regret it now.

Likewise, on a visit to the “Today” show, Lachey declared that he would be “glad” for Simpson in 2020. According to Us Weekly, he remarked, “There’s a mutual respect there. That was long ago, and we’ve all moved on.”
