Downey Condo Fire: A mother and her daughter have perished following a midnight apartment fire in Downey. Another woman who was hospitalized in critical condition is thought to be a member of the same family.
Firefighters from the Downey Fire Department responded to a report near Dinsdale Street and Tweedy Lane at about 10:47 p.m. on Tuesday. The family’s home was engulfed in flames, which the neighbors described as awful to see and hear.
Julio Gonzalez, a neighbor, said: “I saw the apartment was set fire, and I was like, ‘No, it can’t be her. Gonzalez was asleep when his kid noticed the fire consuming his neighbor’s house across the driveway.
Gonzalez claimed that his cousin’s spouse, who lives next door, attempted to escape the flames before the fire department’s arrival, but it was too late.
Gonzalez said, “He yelled.” “Nobody approached. He claimed the fire was too intense to walk upstairs to see if he would see anyone.” The entire area was about to catch fire, the neighbors feared.
It’s a little hamlet, according to George Sanabria, a neighbor. “Just thinking about it hurts your heart.” After several hours, firemen could put out the fire in the apartment, which required the assistance of three individuals.
At the site, a woman was identified as deceased. According to the Downey Fire Department, the victim’s daughter, who was about 12 years old, ultimately passed away at the hospital.
