Bessie Hendricks Dies: The 115-year-old woman who was thought to be the oldest person still alive in the United States has passed away.
Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City reports that Bessie Laurena Hendricks, a resident of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday at the Shady Oaks Care Center.
On November 7, Hendricks celebrated her 115th birthday at the facility. The Gerontology Research Group of Los Angeles named Hendricks the oldest individual in the nation to pass away in the previous year.

Hendricks, who was born in 1907 in Calhoun County in west-central Iowa, lived through the Titanic disaster, World Wars I and II, the Great Depression, and the COVID-19 and Spanish flu pandemics. According to the Des Moines Register, she was a mother of five children and a teacher at a one-room schoolhouse. Three of her kids are still living.
At Lampe & Powers Funeral Home, a funeral service for Hendricks will be held on Saturday. According to the Gerontology Research Group, Edie Ceccarelli, 114, of California, is now the oldest living person in the US due to Hendrick’s passing.
