After some Christian leaders attacked the move as an endorsement of sin, famous contemporary Christian singer Amy Grant defended her choice to organize a same-sex wedding at her farm.
Grant, well-known for mainstream pop songs and contemporary Christian successes like “Mary Did You Know” and “Breath of Heaven,” responded to criticism for hosting her niece’s same-sex wedding in a statement to People Magazine that was published on Monday. She remarked, “I never chase any of those rabbits down the rabbit hole.
She thanked God that “she and Sam got married on the same hillside where Vince [Gill] and I got married,” recalling how her niece was “simply looking for a nice place to get married.” In March, country singer Grant and Gill will mark their 23rd wedding anniversary.
In an interview with The Washington Post published in November, Grant stated her desire to host her niece’s same-sex wedding at her farm.
The singer referred to her niece’s sexual orientation as “a gift to our entire family to simply extend the experience of our entire family” and called the wedding her family’s first “bride and bride” nuptials.

She said she believed that Jesus “narrowed it down to two things: love God and love each other” and that this was consistent with her support for the LGBT community.
Noted The Grant’s decision to host the same-sex wedding drew criticism from Christian leaders. In a Facebook post on December 18, Franklin Graham, the president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, expressed disagreement with Grant’s understanding of Christian doctrine.

“God, not we, decides what sin is, and His word makes it quite plain that homosexuality is sin. We must repent from our sins and place our faith in God’s Son, Jesus Christ, who came to earth to die for our sins to have a relationship with Him and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Acts 3:19 in the Bible states, “Therefore, repent and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.”
Graham emphasized that “for me, worrying about other people’s souls and where they will spend eternity is also part of loving them.” The value of “loving people enough to give them the truth from the Word of God,” he continued, “is something we can never compromise on.” He also emphasized the necessity of this.
The Christian Post published an opinion piece by author and ministry pioneer Larry Tomczak last month. He voiced his opinion that Grant was truly hosting the same-sex marriage at her property as a “goodwill gesture” while expressing concerns about “what it communicates.”
Grant was supposed to receive the contents of Tomczak’s op-ed as a letter, but he claims that Grant refused to read it. He stated that no unconditional approbation of action is against what God forbids, even when we acknowledge God’s unconditional acceptance of us (welcoming us into a relationship when we “repent and believe”).
For them to turn from darkness to light and from Satan’s domination to God and gain forgiveness of sins as well as an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me, Jesus told Paul to “open their eyes” (Acts 26:18), Tomczak said.
