Fourth Man Charged In Assassination of Haitian President!

Fourth Man Charged

The US Justice Department has stated that the four main suspects in July 7, 2021, murder of Haitian President Jovenel Moise were extradited from Haiti to the US on Tuesday.

Seven suspects in the investigation are now being held in US custody. The central prison in Haiti still has dozens of prisoners suffering from severe overcrowding and frequent food and water shortages.

The department on Tuesday said Haitian-American dual citizens James Solages, 37, Joseph Vincent, 57, and Colombian citizen German Alejandro Rivera Garcia, 44, have been charged with conspiring to commit murder or kidnapping outside the United States.

Christian Sanon, a 54-year-old Haitian American, is the fourth man accused of smuggling ballistic vests from the US to Haiti for use in the assassination scheme.

On Wednesday, the four will show up in federal court in Miami. Sanon, who the US Justice Department referred to as an “aspiring political candidate,” was a primary organizer of the killing and has already been prosecuted alongside three other people.

According to the report, Rivera Garcia and about 20 other Colombians with military experience were recruited by Sanon to assist in the assassination. On the night of July 6 to 7, 2021, the Colombian team shot Moise to death in his home in the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

“On July 6, 2021, Solages, Vincent, Rivera, and others met at a house near President Moise’s residence, where firearms and equipment were distributed. Solages announced that the mission was to kill President Moise,” the department alleged.

Fourth Man Charged In Assassination of Haitian President!

Because the plan to assassinate the president of Haiti was reportedly partially organized on US land in Florida by American-Haitian citizens, US law is being applied in this case.

The maximum sentence for the three accused assassins is life in jail. Sanon could spend up to 20 years in prison for his involvement in the operation’s supply.

In the meantime, the investigation into the killing has come to a virtual halt in Haiti. Last year, local officials nominated a fifth judge to look into the case after four others were fired or resigned for personal reasons.

A judge said his family asked him not to take the case because they feared for his life. The AP news agency quoted this judge. Following the mysterious death of one of his assistants, another judge resigned.
