It was the philosopher Plato who first said, "necessity is the mother of invention." Well, that statement is perfect for the origin of JournalistJunction.com. After more than a decade of editing résumé tapes and sending them blindly through the mail, I finally developed a much more efficient and cheaper way to do it.
I was tired of fretting over which clip to put first, waiting to send a tape until I got just the right clip, and worrying if news directors would sit through one package or anchoring montage. For that matter, I would often wonder if news directors would even get to my tape at all. With JournalistJunction.com you waste no time or money if a news director already has an in-house pick but is advertising the position for legal reasons. That wasn't the case in the old days of sending tapes and DVDs.
AND IT WORKS when they're actually looking to fill a position!
In 2006, I decided to try a new way to apply for jobs. I built myself a digital website and began emailing my resumes to news directors... and it quickly landed me a job! Plus, even the ones who didn't end up hiring me, told me they loved the ease and convenience of viewing my work. They flat out told me they wished all their résumés came to them that way.
When I heard that over and over, I decided I should design just such a site. In the end it will make applying for a broadcast journalism job much easier for both the applicant AND the potential employer.
Alas, JournalistJunction.com was born.
Best of luck with your job search,
